We See The Beatles
Sitting Waiting For a Trim
As we look back to another Beatles anniversary, (the 45th) we have another reason to celebrate the Boys arrival to America from February of 1964, this week it’s a rare photo.
Beatle Brunch reaches out to fans all over the world, and we’re thankful that you, our Beatle Brunch family, reaches back. This never before published picture is of The Beatles in Miami, taken at the Deauville Hotel when The Beatles were there to play their second Ed Sullivan show, February 16th, 1964. This story comes from Dave, a Brunch listener in South Florida.
Here’s Dave’s story:
A couple of years ago my brother was watching Dave Letterman and he had on some lady who I think made wigs for dogs. It turns out that she was Ruth Regina, who owned a popular hair saloon in Surfside. When he asked her if she always made these silly things for dogs, she tells him about her many experiences. She goes on to tell Dave that she was the hair stylist for many celebrities and worked backstage on many shows including the Ed Sullivan show that featured our Beatles.
She said that for all of the years that she had her place, her favorite picture was one of her working on the Fab Four that hung on her wall. My brother, knowing Ruth from the old days, stopped by her place thinking that maybe dad was also in the picture. She gladly gave him the negative, which he printed, and you’re seeing it here.
In this photo, in addition to The Beatles at the Deauville, is Ed Sullivan, I believe the back of Connie Francis’s head (the blond in the B&W photo) and whoever else you might be able to make out. My dad, Harold, is the young guy with the clipboard in the center. It’s amazing how young Ed Sullivan was then as I always remember him as the “old guy”.

When I was younger, (so much younger) I always hated when my dad would introduce me to all of the celebrities that he worked with, but I guess now, looking back, that it was a great experience as there were so many. By the way, the best part of my dad's work years that I enjoyed seeing as a kid, was that he did special effects for movie productions etc., so he was always blowing up things or making sure car crashes came out good, such as a boat in the James Bond film “Thunderball” that splits apart and countless amazing others. Though the clarity of the picture may not be the best, I thought you may enjoy.
