Private and institutional collectors will have a rare opportunity to “raise their on-line e-paddles” and bid on the blockbuster, deaccessioned museum exhibit “Give Peace a Chance: John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Bed-in for Peace.” Join private and institutional collectors worldwide May 15 through June 24, 2011 and register at www.Lelands.com for all the exciting auction details.
In 2009, Boca Raton based ArtVision Exhibitions, LLC and Joan E. Athey of Victoria British Columbia, historian and copyright holder of the historic bed-in photographs, curated two touring exhibits in observance of the 40th anniversary of the Lennon’s 1969 Bed-in for Peace. The first, premiered at The Museum at Bethel Woods, followed by the Lake County Discovery Museum, and is currently on view through May 8 at The Monmouth Museum in Lincroft, NJ (Visit www.monmouthmuseum.org for an up-to-date calendar of special events). This popular exhibit will continue to tour to museums throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The second exhibit, which is up for auction, was created to meet a demand in the United Kingdom. It traveled across the pond to England where from May 2009 to May 2010 it was on view to over 100,000 visitors at The Beatles Story Museum in Liverpool, followed by the prestigious International Centre for Peace, Coventry Cathedral, in the City of Coventry. Included in the lot are (34) large format, black & white and color, behind-the-scenes photographs of the newlyweds in intimate moments, candids with Timothy Leary, Tommy Smothers, Dick Gregory, Al Capp and more, taken by photojournalist Gerry Deiter on assignment for Life magazine, and (14) graphic panels and essays by the Lennon’s invited guests and bed-in participants, including famed music producer, Andre Perry.
