Release Get Back ALBUM! 1/13/2019
Timothy Swan - Beatle Brunch Contributor
Joe - hello. as this is the year of 2019, there is no doubt that there will be a unique 50th anniversary release for the album "Abbey Road". However, there is another album that finally deserves an official release; and, what better way to issue it than on its intended 50th anniversary? of course, I am talking about the legendary unreleased album, "Get Back". according to the excellent 2011 book by Bruce Spizer "Beatles For Sale On Parlophone Records", there were two versions of this album that were compiled by Glyn Johns.

VERSION ONE

SIDE ONE -
One After 909
link tracks: Rocker/Save The Last Dance For Me
Don´t Let Me Down
Dig A Pony
I´ve Got A Feeling
Get Back

SIDE TWO - For You Blue
Teddy Boy
Two Of Us On Our Way Back Home
link track: Maggie Mae
Dig It
Let It Be
The Long And Winding Road
Get Back (Reprise)

VERSION TWO: SIDE ONE - One After 909
link tracks: Rocker/Save The Last Dance For Me
Don´t Let Me Down
Dig A Pony
I´ve Got A Feeling
Get Back
Let It Be

SIDE TWO - For You Blue
Two Of Us On Our Way Back Home

Dig It
The Long And Winding Road
I Me Mine
Across The Universe
Get Back (Reprise)

I have actually heard both variations of this unreleased album and they both sound amazing. So if "The White Album" is The Beatles´ alternative album, then "Get Back" could be constituted as the Beatles´ garage band album. the overall feel of the "Get Back" album (both versions) sounds like an up and coming young American garage band practicing and rehearsing a selection of songs that have a rough, unpolished vibe to its sound. There is a unique raw energy to the songs on this album, complete with studio banter in between certain tracks and spontaneous-sounding instrumentation and vocals from the four lads. Thus, it seems like a darn shame that neither version of the "Get Back" album were ever officially released back in 1969 (or any other year, for that matter). the "Get Back" album has a very charming quality to it that sets it apart from the remainder of the Beatles´ other albums from the sixties.

Two stand-out moments include John Lennon asking "are we supposed to giggle in the solo?", and the rattling ice cubes from George Harrison right before the song "For You Blue".

What Giles Martin and his associates should do is remaster both versions of the unreleased "Get Back" album as either a 2-disc CD release or a 2-disc vinyl LP version (perhaps both). This would be perfect for its 50th anniversary. I am almost certain that there are a lot of Beatles fans that would enjoy hearing the "Get Back" album.

The 2003 release "Let It Be...Naked" was a brilliant album. however, there is a spark of freshness and originality that the "Get Back" album has within its sound that deserves to be heard by the masses. While they are at it, there should also be a double-disc release of the 1966 UK compilation "A Collection Of Beatles Oldies", issued in both MONO and STEREO. (vinyl and CD)

Beatle Brunch thanks for the opportunity to make my case for this almost forgotten album, "Get Back".
